sitemap: hide hidden pages from sitemap and SEO indexing

I have been using the following code to hide content

hidden = true

which works fine, yet I noticed the content still appears in the sitemap. Should the hidden feature extend to the sitemap ?

The sitemap has the same function as the menu itself: to discover content. therefore it should behave the same and hide all pages that are hidden and all pages below those pages.

I decided to have a new config parameter for this feature. disableSeoHiddenPages is false by default and causes hidden pages to show up on the sitemap.xml and in Google (and other search engines) search.
