Tweeten 5.5.0 includes the following changes:

  • Introducing Tweeten Notifications:
    • Get real-time updates for your columns, built on top of the existing TweetDeck notification system.
    • Tweeten Notifications allow you to interact with tweets directly, including being able to like a tweet.
    • Complete control over how and where notifications appear via Tweeten Settings > Notifications.
    • You can view images and GIFs within notifications.
    • You can view quoted tweets in notifications, as well as more general details for each tweet/notification.
    • Tweeten Notifications respect Do Not Disturb settings in macOS (only on Intel Mac devices) and Focus Assist settings in Windows 10/11.
    • Built-in mute feature allows you to temporarily disable notifications easily.
  • Added the ability to set custom notification sounds (#233). This is independent of Tweeten Notifications, so you will be able to use custom notification sounds even if you disable Tweeten Notifications.
  • Added the ability to disable the spell checker (#211).
  • Added ability to choose the language for spell checker on Windows. On macOS, Tweeten follows native OS settings (System Preferences > Keyboard > Spelling).
  • The new Tweeten logo has been slightly adjusted to be larger on both Windows and macOS.
  • Fixed an issue where the app would not close properly in macOS (#238), resulting in changed behaviour:
    • When you now close the Tweeten window with the red X button, it will simply hide the window, and clicking on the Tweeten icon on the taskbar will show the window again. This will ensure that notifications still show up and that you are able to perform tweet actions (like/RT/reply) from the notifications.
    • To completely close the app, including the notifications, you will have to hit CMD+Q, or "Quit App" from the context menu of the app in the dock.
    • This is in line with the behaviour of other apps such as Discord, Spotify, etc.
  • Fixed an issue where the app would not focus the existing instance when attempting to launch a second instance with "multiple instances" option disabled.
  • Fixed an issue where the compact RT modal did not work when the Tweeten window is narrow (#248).
  • Fixed an issue where the compact RT modal broke modals such as "Add or remove from lists..." and "Add to Collection..." (#249).
  • Changed compact RT modal behaviour to only close when the tweet moves. Previously, the modal would close if there was any scroll event in the app.
  • Fixed an issue where native Twitter videos would not play (#230).
  • Fixed an issue where the GIF zoom preview would take up the entire window for larger GIFs (#243).
  • Fixed an issue where the app wouldn't persist previous window state before installing a new update.
  • Fixed an issue where the "clear column" quick action did not appear for Search columns (#227).
  • Fixed an issue where Tweeten did not persist the zoom level across sessions (#192).

Enjoy!

Tweeten 5.2 is here! The update mostly includes changes behind the scenes to make Tweeten slightly more reliable and secure. It also introduces new features:

  • Native emoji picker: you can now use your operating system's native emoji picker. If you are on Windows 10, this new emoji picker will give you access to Kamoji!
  • Spellchecker: Tweeten's spellchecker is now powered by Windows Spellcheck in Windows 10 and the native spellchecker in macOS, allowing for improved accuracy and faster spellchecking.
  • Right-click menu: the context menu has been re-implemented to be more reliable, though most of the functionalities remain the same. You can now open media directly in a browser instead of opening the tweet first (#209), Options related to images and GIFs in the context menu now work when you right-click on a tweet from a column, instead of having to open the tweet/picture first. You can also now download videos from the context menu, but you will have to first open the tweet or the video.
  • Tweeten emoji picker: the built-in emoji picker in Tweeten has now been improved to let you insert emojis exactly where your cursor is instead of just adding them to the end of your tweet. Also fixed an issue where emojis wouldn't actually get added to the compose box.
  • Login/logout: Tweeten's login/logout flow has been re-written. Note: if you close the app during the login, an error will appear. This will be fixed in a future release.
  • Pasting images from clipboard: When you had multiple compose boxes opened, Tweeten would fail to paste images from the clipboard to the right compose box (#207). This has now been fixed.
  • Additional accounts: Fixed an issue where the "Link another account you own" option wouldn't show up on the light theme (#201)

Say hello to the new Tweeten pickers: completely rebuilt from the ground-up with new features and design. The new GIF and Emoji pickers are now available across Tweeten, not just the compose box. You can add GIFs and emojis when you are writing a new tweet, replying to someone, or direct messaging someone.

Two new handy shortcuts make it even easier to access the new pickers: use Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+E to access the emoji picker and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+G for the GIF picker. Checkout Settings > App for new options related to the new Tweeten pickers.

Accessibility: Tweeten can now automatically prompt you to add image descriptions whenever you are adding a new image. The feature is disabled by default, but you can enable it under Settings > App to help make Twitter more accessible to everyone.

Support Tweeten: I'm testing a new, less intrusive "Support Tweeten" message that's much easier on the eyes, and takes up less space. This is just a test and maybe reverted in the future.

Others: Fixed the interface for the Trending column, and some other minor fixes.
