Incompatible Hardware

Hardware listed on this page may not work with newer versions of MidnightBSD either. This is just the environment they were tested in.

MidnightBSD 3.0

HP Victus 15-fa0000 laptop: no sound, trackpad, wifi, Bluetooth, intel integrated graphics, keyboard backlight

MediaTek MT7921 802.11ax pciE WiFi. (the wifi and Bluetooth do not work) These are often found on newer gaming laptops like the HP Victus and Asus ROG models.

Intel AX210 / AX200 wifi

Intel Integrated graphics on 11th gen or newer CPUs is not supported. vesa must be used.

AMD Ryzen APUs with vega graphics can work with the drm kmod in mports but 7000 series do not.

We have not tested with Ryzen 7000 series or Intel 13th gen CPUs at all. Unknown support at this time. Integrated graphics are guaranteed not to work accelerated, but we don't know about other platform/chipset issues.

MidnightBSD 2.2

MediaTek MT7921 802.11ax pciE WiFi. (the wifi and Bluetooth do not work) These are often found on newer gaming laptops like the HP Victus and Asus ROG models.

nvidia GPUs that require a driver newer than 470.xx. (510 is not compatible)

Intel AX210 / AX200 wifi

HP Victus 15-fa0000 laptop: no sound, trackpad, wifi, Bluetooth, intel integrated graphics, keyboard backlight

Intel Integrated graphics on 10th gen or newer CPUs is not supported. vesa must be used.

Most Corsair keyboards. While there are some model-specific hacks in the USB stack for these non-standard keyboards, newer firmware on many models like the k68 and k70 lux seems to break entirely. Typing on the keyboards shows no output. If you have one of these keyboards and dual boot, do not use corsair icue software as it will update the firmware.

AMD Ryzen 2000 series or newer APUs. The CPU works, but not the GPU part. These use vega graphics and might be supported in MidnightBSD 3.x with drm kmod for that.

MidnightBSD 2.0

AMD Ryzen 1000 series CPUs made near launch. Some of these CPUs have a defect that causes crashes with IPFW enabled. Not all 1700 CPUs are impacted and a workaround is to not use IPFW. You may be able to RMA the CPU to AMD also. This is related to a FreeBSD bug https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=228332 WiFi 5/6 wireless adapters are not supported in AC/AX modes. Many newer models do not work at all. (see 1.2 list below)

MidnightBSD 1.2

Here is a list of hardware known to be incompatible with MidnightBSD 1.2.

Asus 802.11ac USB adapters Emagic EMI 2/6 V1.7a - USB Audio Interface Multichannel

Intel WiFi 6 AX200 Realtek WiFi 802.11ac rtl8822be
