I've just installed ironhide, and when running ironhid-configuration, when it comes to glxgears (which runs fine if I run it manually) I get this error:

Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual
Another ironhide powered application is running, keeping ironhide alive.

If I run manually glxinfo I get

glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.11
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
OpenGL extensions:

probably I'm missing something: to run ironhide-configuration should I use nvidia or not? currently it seems nvidia is not being used?

Hmm, you (or Ironhide) has broken something, a library path is misconfigured.

Try Bumblebee as described in http://askubuntu.com/a/36936/6969 (for upgrading, see http://wiki.bumblebee-project.org/Upgrading-on-Ubuntu)
