General information about reV modules.

  1. Generation
  2. LCOE

Generation

The Generation module is a complex wrapper, enabling distributed generator performance modeling using the Systems Advisor Model (SAM) with large resource databases. The generation module is capable of analyzing millions of potential sites with geography-specific resource data and a virtually limitless number of technology configurations.

Currently, reV has the ability to model user-defined PV plants, wind power plants, and CSP plants. Additional SAM technology models can be implemented with reV's modular SAM python API.

The reV generation module can be run on a personal computer, but also includes distributed computing tools for massive parallelization on high-performance computing (HPC) environments. Development of AWS compatibility is also underway.

LCOE

reV has the ability to execute SAM financial models on any of the generation technologies. Currently, the only financial model available in reV is the fixed-charge rate (FRC) method. reV 2.0 will also be able to analyze offshore wind economics using the ORCA package.
