Renaming zpool / dataset and back breaks boot under some circumstance

I renamed my root zpool and dataset using export-import-export for the zpool and zfs rename for the dataset. I forgot to do a nixos-rebuild switch after changing my configuration files to support the new configuration, so I renamed everything back.

This somehow broke my grub and I couldn't get back to the nixos grub menu.

Importing and exporting the zpool on the livecd seems to be what fixed the problem in the end, I don't know what's going on. I have not had time to make a reproducer.
