Importing

You drag any of the following types into the window and they will automatically import, with the exception of .bin files for some systems which cannot always be identified (.bin is ambiguous). In that case you use the Import Issue Resolver (bottom left corner of the Library window) to manually select the correct system.

For importing CD-based games, closely follow the CD and M3U guide as they require extra effort.

Single ROM files per zip may be imported -- but not for CD/Disc-based systems. Multiple files per zip cannot be imported.

Import Failure Help

"Already in library"

The file already exists in the game library — duplicates cannot be imported.

"Already in library, but manually deleted or unreachable"

The game already exists in the database but was previously manually deleted from the game library folder. DO NOT manually delete games from your Game Library folder. OpenEmu manages your library and games MUST be deleted through the app.

"No valid system detected"

The file is not valid for any supported system, or the appropriate system has been hidden.

"Must not be compressed"

Compressed archives must not contain multiple files or optical disc media. Extract using The Unarchiver and import the resulting file.

"Contains no data"

The file is empty — zero bytes; likely the result of a corrupted download.

"Missing referenced file"

The file being referenced by the disc descriptor cannot be found — likely the result of a bad dump or edit. Instead, download known good dumps of the games from a "Redump" set on Archive.org

"Not plain text"

The disc descriptor file is not plain text. If M3U, follow the CD and M3U guide closely.

"No permission to open"

The file cannot be read due to permission problem. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Security & Privacy then select the Privacy tab. Remove the existing Files and Folders permission for OpenEmu, if exists, and instead grant Full Disk Access.

"Invalid cue sheet format"

The cue sheet file is not formatted correctly — the result of a bad dump or edit. Instead, download known good dumps of the games from a "Redump" set on Archive.org
