The content at http://vettec.operationcode.org/ should be converted to the rest of our regular site's structure.

I was thinking we could merge this into 'military-benefits' and make this more like the new-gi-bill page? Thoughts?

This needs design work. Any takers?

@JennWeideman I imagine yes. Just like with /code_schools this info page was a big hit on the old domain. It's an SEO boost.

It shouldn't be too difficult to:

  • Bring over the content from the existing VET TEC page into our current OC app, as React component(s)
  • Restyle the VET TEC content to be consistent with the current OC app visuals
  • Show this page when the user navigates to www.operationcode.org/vettec URL (or another route that we feel is better named)

Couple questions:

  1. Was the original https://vettec.operationcode.org/ page ever linked to from anywhere, either in the original OC Rails app, or externally from the web?
  2. Where do we want to link to this new VET TEC page to from within our app? I don't know that it justifies having its own link in the top navbar or in the footer, which are already borderline overcrowded. A 'military-benefits' section like @hollomancer suggested might make more sense, where we could link to the VET TEC page, and other important benefits such as the external 'New GI Bill' page which we'd like to increase awareness of.

After further investigation, it doesn't seem useful to create a page for the https://vettec.operationcode.org/ content, as it is out of date. The VET TEC act was merged into the Forever GI Bill, which has already been passed/signed. From https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/115/hr1989:

Provisions of this bill were incorporated into other bills which were enacted, so there will not likely be further activity on this bill. This bill was incorporated into:
H.R. 3218: Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017
Enacted — Signed by the President on Aug 16, 2017"

I feel that it would be more productive to simply create a 'Military Benefits' page (as suggested above) that could highlight everything that the Forever GI Bill offers, in addition to any other benefits that our community needs awareness of.

@davidmolina see above and decide on whether you want to simply close this issue or simply pivot to providing an informational military benefits page

This can be closed. All that needs to happen is that vettec.operationcode.org redirects to the main site, as per #1038.

@hollomancer did you organize the redirect with our host or DNS manager?
