hop cone #601
Comments
As the hop cone is used in the unpollinated, pre-seed stage, it is a strobilus. strobilus (PO:0025083): A reproductive shoot system consisting of a number of modified leaves (sporophylls) or ovule-bearing scales grouped terminally on a stem. Synonyms: This could actually be split into two child terms: microsporangiate strobili or pollen cones, and those bearing ovules are megasporangiate strobili or seed cones (or ovulate cones). How do we annotate a 'hop cone'?
Is it an equivalent of 'infructuscence'.
