RPCS3 0.0.7.8620 Not Install GAME data Metal Gear 4:Guns Of The Patriot[BLES00246] #6457
Comments
This issue cropped up for me around PR #6415, where-as PR #6388 doesn't have this issue. There's a workaround for this, that allows the game to still go in game that I found today. Delete the hanged corrupted install attempts This then allows the game to go in-game, but you will still need to change the "install settings" option once in-game to "Cumulative Install", otherwise the game will try to install the files again in-between mission loads and hang, leading to corrupted files. Within RPCS3, I also disabled Disk Caching as well, however I don't think it's necessary. |
RPCS3 0.0.7.8623 Frozen do not enter Ingame |
Hi, What data should I manually copy to \dev_hdd0\game*MGS4 ID HERE*\USRDIR? |
@Grabisoft The staff has been pretty much just echoing
This bottom line does hold however. |
There are only 3 admins on the Discord and finding an instance of 2 talking at the same time is very rare, let alone 3, lol |

In the new build update 09/06 the loading and installing Problems do appear.. the older Version used to get the game till first Gameplay mode but then freezed (known issue) at 24.7 FPS. So it went worse than it is, or am I wrong? |
It did regress yes, this is not how it was before. Needs investigation. |
I guess it will take a Little bit more time (I hope within this month) that they get a good build to run mgs4 but yeah let's wait for further Investigation :) |
Actually your idea is correct, but ... in parts. If you copy the files straight from Blu-ray, the game will identify them as corrupted and prompt for a fresh install. In fact, for the game to really work, you'll need the files GAME installs and not the Blu-ray files. So I "solved" the problem as follows: I downloaded the previous version of the emulator you mentioned (rpcs3-v0.0.6-8574-eed32cf3_win64 to be more specific) and really, the game installs without any problems. so I went to the emulator installation folder (\ dev_hdd0 \ game \ * MGS4 ID HERE * \ USRDIR ) and copied it to the same folder as the new emulator version, so the game finally ran. |
The first task would be to do regression testing to find where the game stopped working. It seems to have broken somewhere between the 2 PRs, but there were several other unrelated works submitted that were not tested for this. A proper commit bisect would be required here before any real progress can be made. |
I've followed the Information from spider and it really worked with the old build, but somehow I couldn't manage to move the dir files to the hdd0 section, it always says to me that the files are damaged and wants to do a reinstall. Bút I'm also confused why the heck this game manages to install the files at a older build Version and lacks at installing on a newer build, cuz they said they've managed to adjust the functions to the newer versions of the build.. :/ |
Um there is another problem. The game doesn't work with the newest build update at all, so we are making no Progress but still have a unsolved problem there .. (Code: E {RSX [0x00024ac]} RSX: nv406e::semaphore_acquire has timed out. semaphore_address=0x50300010) |
Thats not an error/bug, its a symptom. Means the emulator stopped working. I don't know how to reword it to stop confusing people, but the message makes sense to developers. |
As for testing, start with the old build and try new builds until it stops working. If you mean, it was working in the PR, then stopped working before the PR was merged, just check for official/master builds between the day the PR was opened and the day it was merged. It took quite a long time to wrap up working on the new changes so many changes were made in master builds while the PR was still undergoing development. Of course once work is completed, the PR is merged but inherits all the work added to master in the interim. |
Hi! |
#6421 made mgs4 installer (either the original game release 1.0 or the anniversary edition 2.0) softlock after 10%(full)/20%(chapter) when it cant rename the first file it finished writing |
Thank you for the detailed report. |
Have you tried #6584 ? |
Yes that PR fixes the issue, both game versions install properly on it.
or similar |
That is unrelated. You're getting those because of RSX desyncs. |
On latest master.
Resolved by PR #6584, however log spams the following
|
Ok Yes fixed #6584 Install GAME Data Files not fixed video after install data game freezes no video to go ingame not install game date files 8gb |
Followed spider13113 method and then used latest emulator will always hang at menu start is there a persific build for best testing using bles version |
this is unrelated to this bug and nobody says it, but you need 6/8 core CPU to run this game without it hanging very frequently with an error, HT on 4core CPU does not count. |
Can confirm that this got the game to install, I made minor changes to this method such as: Dropping the VBlank Frequency to 75hz and the resolution scale to 50% to maximize FPS without overclocking my hardware. Specs: GTX 1070 Ti, Ryzen 5 2600 @ 3.65 GHz, X470 AORUS Ultra Gaming MoBo, 16GB of 3200 DDR4 Ram (TridentZ) If hardware matters at all. Emulator locked up shortly after install, but I went from locking up at 9% to a full install in less than 5 minutes. Unsure if this is correct log file. |
Right click the game in the list, click Configure, go to Advanced and set Maximum number of SPURS threads to 3, this provides a decent speedup (values lower than 3 will make the game not work, and values higher than 3 give less speedup with no benefit), if you are messing with VBlank frequency setting it to 75 does nothing important, the only reason to set it to 240 is so you can have more steps between 15, 20, 30, 60 fps for the game to smoothly transition between, if youre going to set it to 75 just reset it back to 60. Go to CPU tab and make sure youre on LLVM recompiler for both decoders, and Accurate xfloat is unchecked. Nothing else matters and can be left at defaults (SPU Block size should be set to Safe because Mega/Giga dont really improve perf other than making SPU discovery less granular, and can cause problems). Go to GPU and make sure you are using Vulkan, and none of the right side options are checked. Framelimiter should also be Off (unless you changed VSync interval to something more than 60, in which case you can set it to 60 so that menus/cutscenes dont go nuts), and Antialiasing set to Auto. Click Save and exit RPCS3, once you have done that you will notice there is now a file with the game ID inside config/custom_configs folder. Open it in Notepad(++) and change "Disable ZCull Occlusion Queries: false" to "Disable ZCull Occlusion Queries: true" then save it. This gives an additional big performance boost at the expense of some game meshes not showing up (this, and pitch black shadows can be workedaround by using a custom RPCS3 build, not applicable to this issue, check my rpcs3 fork releases page if you want it). After all these steps the game should install (if you are using RPCS3 with 6584 PR applied) and run, but you will likely hardlock often (whenever theres a lot of SPU compilation happening in log and whenever the game feels like it), however that's the best you can get it so far. |
I was able to install it without issues, and the first time it installed at a lower resolution (50%) it actually got as far as the tv shows in the intro of the game. I accidentally cancelled the compiling and it crashed and I wasn't able to get any further than clicking new game --> difficulty and it would immediately hard lock. I am currently running rpcs3-8574 which I believe is PR#6388. I haven't tried moving the games installed files to a newer build as I am unsure if that is possible to do. |
That's ancient and will hang much faster than newer builds. You should at least use the appveyor artefact from #6584 (https://ci.appveyor.com/api/buildjobs/6iw8w70ymbb1kt11/artifacts/rpcs3-v0.0.7-946769c8_win64.7z) just extract the 7z into your existing rpcs3 dir overwriting everything |
dropped u a email about the custom build if u still had |
Okay, that did help but it still struggles to get through the start menu. I got a little further than the latest attempts. It almost hard locked after selecting difficulty but pulled through into the installation and was going fine but crashed. Will try a few more times and post an update. |
Where did you get the idea to mess with this ? Change it back to Safe or you can have unexpected issues with no real benefit for this title. |
I got the idea from Bsod gaming on youtube. He recommended Mega for Ryzen CPU performance in general. He posted a video for MGS4 for 4k @60fps but contained no build information for mgs4. The video I used for general settings was from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE04tmT-WCU&t=286s which appears to be build 8776 (PR#6642) This video is from 6 days ago and it does not include settings pertaining to mgs4, just overall performance I recommend checking out the video as you may be able to pull more information than I could. |
The 60fps video is from an old custom build and was a luck of the draw/several attempts spliced together. Mega/Giga definitely breaks some mgs4 SPU code (you can see errors when compiling SPU code when they are active, check the log for "invalid jump target" or similar). Follow all the steps ive described in previous posts and you will be able to get through the install and the intro cinematics, the game is probably going to hang when gameplay starts though (and then you need savegames to try and find some places that wont hang). I've scrubbed through the 6 day old setup video and it seems like mostly bogus information ? It tells you specifically to not check things that wont matter at all and then change other arbitrary things that will likely break emulation of most titles... If you don't know what a setting does, leave it at default. |
I was play MGS 4 RPCS3 (( v0.0.7-8819 )) freeze x 2 and you see my screenshot here i'm not know this mgs 4 rpcs3 not working , |
@Joaozin-tech Can we close this issue now that it's been resolved? |
