Client credentials

Justin Forest edited this page Feb 1, 2024 · 7 revisions

Client credentials are the login and password for your application that uses our API. You might need them to request client tokens, which let you use the API anonymously but with a higher limit, or user tokens, which let you access the API on behalf of a user.

To get your credentials, please fill in this form. If your application gets approved, you will receive your client id and password shortly, otherwise you'll get a message with the rejection reason, so you can apply again or consider using guest tokens. If you didn't get a response for a couple of days, please contact us.

Rejection reasons

Please note that we don't usually approve all requests. If you want to run a personal script, use guest tokens. If you're developing an application and need read only access to the API, please also use guest tokens. That should be enough for most cases. If you run a website, use our iframe embeds to display gifs.

We usually approve applications access to mobile apps that go public, and commercial apps like schedulers, which let users upload and cross-post videos on schedule.
