Thanks a lot for your contribution. Please note that the README.md is generated based on files in /doc, thus the patches will be overwritten in future updates. However, I will look into that generation to fix the markdown rendering issues you discovered.

FYI, this is actually a bug in pandoc #5121.

Workaround in devel (until fixed pandoc is released).
