It would be great if you could configure e-mail notifications. For example:

  • to be notified when you are mentioned or some keyword is mentioned
  • or for any activity on a particular channel

And then to configure to:

  • get e-mail immediately
  • or digest every X hours at max

Duplicate of RocketChat/Rocket.Chat#287

Hm, RocketChat/Rocket.Chat#287 talks only about starred and upvoted messages? Here I am talking more about notifications for a particular user. RocketChat/Rocket.Chat#287 looks to more more like mailing-list digest approach to that. More than notifications.

Let's re-open then, with a reference to RocketChat/Rocket.Chat#287. They will use common code, that's for sure.

We can also refer RocketChat/Rocket.Chat#741 that open same issue for @mention & email notification feature. But #787 (current one) has larger scope. So may mark RocketChat/Rocket.Chat#741 as duplicate of #787?

important enterprise feature, big feature of Slack, keeps teams informed when out of office/after work hours/when chat isn't open, increases platform 'stickiness' and reinforces use of platform for team communications. Periodic or once/daily digests would be cool as well but I guess would also increase the overall complexity of the feature, when combining RocketChat/Rocket.Chat#741 & #787

Maybe it all boils down to a Notifications settings page, where user can setup when/how is notified and based on what events (perhaps even based on current status), e.g.:

  • Mentioned on a channel [Push notification]
  • Direct Message [e-mail]

Excuse my awkward attempt to reproduce a <select> input :)

i'd love this feature, but please by default give us a couple of seconds to read the message before actually sending an email for messages that are read... double notifications are quite annoying.

+1 would be a very useful feature.. especially when not at a computer. Since you cannot currently connect to your own Rocket.Chat instance with the iPhone -- an e-mail notification after ~5 minutes (or configurable amount of time) of being mentioned or directly messaged if the message hasn't been seen/acknowledged would be helpful. This is a big feature in Slack for sure.

+1 This is a feature I'd very much love to see added.

Let's separate the 2 [E-mail notifications] issues into Digests and Alerts

We will focus on the alerts first.

HI, I tried to check the mentioned issues and PRs related to the topic but not sure where this is at right now.
Is there already a possibility to set channel digest in the current version of RC?
Else, what is the status of this feature? thanks for the update

We have an instance of rocketchat that we use and have a similar need for a digest email, perhaps daily mail that summarizes the channel(s) activity and then post to a mailing list. When might the capability to allow for daily digests be available in rocket chat.

SMF uses a pretty simple system - sends out a notice of the first reply to a topic, then won't send any more until after the user has visited it. That would save a lot of convoluted ifs?

Since this is issue is from 2015. I would also suggest to quick fix this with @andysavage proposal.

As a heavy user, i get alot of emails and it is really annoying. It feels like needed spam..

a quick fix would be nice!

I also think this is what we need in Rocket.Chat. Receiving an email per every single chat message is insane and unexpected. It fills up mailboxes with useless informations apart from "you have new messages in Rocket.Chat". I also think that RC should send out a notice of the first mention or private message, then don't send any more messages until after the user has visited the chat.

Hello, any updates since last year regarding this daily digest feature?

Rocket chat is working well and here we like it, but we are a small community and thousands and thousands of e-mails are sent each month just because of this specific issue.
Our group have to pay for the e-mails and the users are getting their e-mail box clogged by hundreds of single messages.

We haven´t found a way to solve this problem ourselves.
Is this issue still being considered? Is there maybe a developer that is planning to someday implement the digest/e-mail combining function?
Thank you!
