I can do fnm use system, but when I do fnm default system I get this error:

Can't find a version installed in /Users/<name>/.fnm/node-versions/system/installation

Any ideas?

Ditto for fnm alias latest default.

Would you want default to follow latest, or be aliased to the current version latest is aliased to, @Jamesernator?

My preference would be for it to follow, this means I wouldn't need to re-do fnm default <version> everytime I install the new latest.
