It's weird, this does not happen for me. The selection is preserved when the find panel opens. Regardless of auto_find_in_selection setting.

What is your ST version and OS?

Can anyone else reproduce this?

For the record, I'm on Windows 7 3095.

Cannot reproduce it either in OS X 10.9.5. Maybe a conflicting plugin?

@KES777 did you try this with a clean installation and are you still able to reproduce?

on new version it is reproduced also

also reproduced on Linux x64 (Ubuntu 15.10), clean install, ST build 3103

exact reproduction steps:

  1. new tab
  2. type hello
  3. select hello by any means
  4. open the find panel by any means
  5. press Esc or the x at the right hand side of the panel to close the find panel
  6. the cursor is now at the end of hello, and no text is selected

on Windows it works as expected - hello remains selected after closing the find panel

This seems related to #1022 - when opening the find panel, the entire contents of the Find pattern is selected by default, and, due to the ST bug whereby selections are lost when a selection is made elsewhere, the main view loses the selection.

Can also replicate by opening the find panel, then double clicking a word in main view, the find panel's selection disappears. Then double click on a word in the find panel, the view's selection disappears. Therefore, closing as a dupe.
