Road Case Detailed Setup Instructions

Setup

  1. Plug in the UPS electrical cable (male power connector) to power
  2. Press the Power button on the UPS (front of the AV rack, bottom, inside the plastic cover)
  3. Turn on the two Mac Minis by pressing the two power buttons on the front center of the AV rack. They will make a mac power-up noise.
  4. Connect the monitors
    1. Power: Connect all four monitors to the Belkin power strip inside the AV box.
    2. Connect the “Cheesy Arena” monitor (leftmost monitor) to the HDMI connector on the patch panel.
    3. Connect the “Aux” monitor (left center monitor) to the “Aux Monitor Output” HDMI connector on the patch panel.
    4. Connect the “Video Switcher” monitor (right center monitor) to the HDMI connector on the back of the AV rack.
    5. Connect the “Multiview” monitor (rightmost monitor) to the “Cheesy Arena Computer” HDMI connector on the back of the AV rack.
  5. Connect an Ethernet cable connected to Internet to the “Internet Input” Ethernet connector.
  6. Access Point (in AV drawer on front)
    1. Connect the Access Point power port (barrel jack on the router) to the “Access Point Power Supply” cable inside the drawer.
    2. Screw in all antennas to the access point.
    3. Connect the access point Ethernet port switch.
  7. Connect the “Audio Output” RCA connectors to one of the audio mixer inputs.
  8. Connect one of the audio outputs from the mixer to the “Audio Input From Mixer” RCA connectors (for audio to the webcast stream).
  9. Setup webcast streaming. Link
  10. Connect video outputs from cameras to the AV switcher (connectors on back of the AV rack). Note that SDI cables work best for long runs. HDMI - SDI converters are in the drawer.

  12. Headphone Monitor Amp- This is for monitoring the webcast audio levels. (Optional)
  13. Make sure ATEM Production Studio app is open on the Video Switcher computer.
  14. Start Cheesy Arena on the Cheesy Arena computer.

Good to know

  1. Familiarize yourself with preview-program editing
    • This is operated by switching between the “Preview” and “Program” views. The “Program” view is what will be fed to the projector, webcast, displays, etc. The “Preview” view allows you to load up a video source.
    • The Preview and Program displays as well as the eight inputs are displayed on the Multiview monitor. On the inputs, if the input is surrounded by a red box, the input is on the Program output and should not be altered. If the input is surrounded by a green box, the input is on the Preview display and is ready for your edit.
    • To make edits, you switch between “Preview” and “Program.” To do this, you can hit the spacebar for a hard cut or the enter key for a smooth transition (e.g. a film dissolve, a dip to a color, or a pattern transition)
    • You use the numpad or the buttons in the ATEM software to control the preview or program outputs. It is typically better to control the preview window and switch between the preview and program.
    • Before the actual tournament, get practice using the switcher.
  2. Supersource
    • The switcher is capable of Supersource (putting together multiple sources into one collage). This is configured in the right panel of the app.
  3. Play videos and audio
    • On the “Cheesy Arena” computer, load up the desired video file in QuickTime. Drag the video to the right display (on Video Playback). Note that this will cover the game overlays It can help to set the ‘Auxiliary’ monitor to display the overlays.
  4. Audio mixer in Blackmagic Software
    • This is only used to control the webcast sound. The microphones, music, and game sounds all feed into the audio switchboard, which is then fed into the BlackMagic switcher. The BlackMagic switcher output is then fed to the webcast.
    • On the bottom of the software, select the “Audio” tab. There are sliders for the various inputs, as well as “On/Off” buttons on the bottom to control whether the audio input is on. The camera audio inputs can be used to mix in audience sounds for the webcast. The full field camera microphone is the best one to use for audience sounds.
    • Use the sliders at your own discretion. Use the headphone monitor to keep an ear on audio levels.
