the old portal extracted information about the states from two locations in the election_portal/static directory, an XML file with state information and an XML file with bibliographic information. There should be a way on the new portal to display this information about the states. Ideally these two files would be stored as generic XML content in Fedora itself, and the portal would draw that information from the Fedora objects. (These are not currently Fedora objects, but that's an easy fix.)

We will have to do some simple design around this; we have some ideas but no wireframes as yet.

The goal is to have this information display in the same manner as the office authority files, though there are some differences.

First, there are three different files for each state, and we would like to them to display in the same order for each state: the image, then the state page, then the bibliography (as shown, compacted, in the image below).

Secondly, unlike the authority files, which continue to change and be re-ingested, these are static pages which are in a different location.

The individual state images can be found in the state_images ---> images ---> aas_portal directory. Each state has two versions of the image - regular and small. The file names use the two letter abbreviation for each state, rather than the state name.

The state pages and bibliography pages can all be found in the static ---> aas_portal directory. The state files are listed as state-Alabama.xml, with the state name changing, while the bibliography files are listed as bib-Alabama.xml, with the state name changing.

Some of the state histories are rather long. The preference is to display the first X number of characters (TBD) from the history with an option to see more which expands the text. Much like how descriptions work in TDL.
