Remote desktop access to the VM

The virtual machine is running a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) server on TCP port 3389. To access the desktop:

  1. Start a RDP client on your local machine.
  2. Use the IP address or host name of the VM as the PC name.
  3. Connect.
  4. You will then be presented with the xrdp login screen:

  • Select Xorg as the session.
  • Enter the VM username (default: sirfuser).
  • Enter the VM password (default: sirf%1). These are the details that were set during the building of the VM.
  1. You will then be presented with the Ubuntu unity desktop:

Information

  • The sidebar may take a few moments to appear first time.
  • If presented with the Ubuntu login screen, the password is the same as the VM password.
  • While the session should persist after disconnection, it is recommended that you save your work beforehand.
