After the crash of the U.S.C. Manifest Destiny onto Mesbin, and after the immediate threat of existential failure was avoided as emergency colony systems were being booted up, the colonists started looking around at their situation. Their frustration peaked when they discovered just how good it would have been if they could have landed there as planned. It was almost a dead ringer for their homeworld. They aptly named it the Kerbin Moon, or Kerbmun. The exploration and habitation of Kerbmun is a common staple of Science Fiction, and the notion of exploring the potentially life-bearing oceans of the planet gave rise to the subgenre of Gastronomical Fiction, exploring what types of amazing snack delicacies could be made if only Kerbals could find new and interesting species to eat! (Mesbinites are, after all, not nearly as culinarily enriched as our ancestors on Kerbin, given that only a few food items survived the crash of the Manifest Destiny.)

Kerbmun is like an earlier Kerbin. It's just starting its great oxygenation event. Most of the CO2 is locked up in the oceans, so the rise of land plants won't speed it up much more rapidly, but there's plenty of ocean life to breathe out that toxic waste gas--that is, oxygen.

Kerbmun's surface is largely covered by oceans of saltwater with salinity similar to Kerbin's (and Earth's). The landmasses are mostly broken up into six or seven continents, with a few large islands making up the rest of the landmass.
The terrain is covered in soil very similar to that found on Kerbin (and Earth), and most of it contains a fairly large amount of moisture due to the presence of rainfall.
Each pole has a water-ice cap.
Kerbmun's oxygen rich atmosphere was detected even from Kerbin when it and Mesbin would transit in front of Kaywell. Oxygen, being highly reactive, is expected to be found only in other compounds, excess molecular oxygen should be long gone. As a result, it is very likely that Kerbmun has some plant life generating oxygen through photosynthesis. There doesn't appear to be any land life, given the apparent brown barren surface, but in the water there could be microorganisms or even complex life!
