Troymin as seen from an observatory on Mesbin.

Name: Troymin

Designation: Kaywell A d VI

Discovery: Telescopic observations (though it is visible to the naked eye)

Troymin is one of the smaller satellites, and the last satellite, to be discovered orbiting Mesbin. Its name, meaning Tiny Leader, refers to the fact that it shares an orbit with Kerbmun, being 60 degrees ahead in their coorbital 1:1 resonance, therefore it seems to be leading Kerbmun across the sky. Despite the fact that it took a long time to formally discover, Troymin is visible in the sky as a dim star which is 60 degrees of arc away from Kerbmun. Telescopic views reveal it to be an irregularly shaped world, possibly with some volatile elements.

Information

Troymin is a trojan of Kerbmun, which means it is in the same orbit as Kerbmun, but 60 degrees ahead. The delta-v to transfer directly to Kerbmun is very low, only about 570 m/s (with a capture and circularization of 850 m/s that can be accomplished with aerobraking) and if one takes a significantly longer route it is possible to encounter Kerbmun with as little as a few dozen meters per second just to escape and change the phasing rate of the orbit. For these reasons, Troymin makes an excellent location to set up refueling infrastructure. Troymin, like Thresomin, is a volatile-rich body, so there's plenty of ore to mine and refine.
