UI and UX Ideas for FRVR

Some ideas about how we can improve the UI/UX for FRVR games…

Good place to start would be to model our UI similarly to how Facebook integrates games.

Facebook:

  • When you open a chat with someone, you see a toolbar on the bottom.
  • Once you click the Game Console icon, you see a window that allows you to choose which game you want to play.
  • Then, once you play one round, it sends a message to the friend you wanted to play with, urging them to play as well.
  • In this way, it is interactive because the messenger sends your score back and forth so you are competing in a way. When you open a message with somebody in Messenger, and you start a game, then you are by default playing with that person (i.e. they will get notifications after you play).
  • Facebook also has a “Share” option, which sends a message to a friend that invites them to try the game.

Rocket Chat

  • On Rocket Chat right now, it takes two steps to start a game with someone. First, you can have to click on the Game Cube Icon.
  • Then you have to click on the plus sign and type in your friend’s username (you can type in multiple friends).
  • This doesn’t, however, actually engage the other user at all. It simply starts a room with you and whoever’s username you typed in.
  • You can see your friends' high-score in the bottom left corner of the game screen but there is a small UI issue with this where the avatar doesn’t show up.

Overall, I recommend modeling our UI similarly to how Facebook integrates FRVR because it is more intuitive and it is a platform people are familiar with. Plus, sending messages back and forth with the leading scores is more engaging and will encourage users to play more.
