Improve and refactor base_uint:

Reduce class clutter by removing unnecessary derived classes.
Consolidate multiple implementations of arithmetic and comparison operators.
Tag support helps provide self-documenting semantics, improves type safety by catching type mismatch errors during compilation.
Small assorted cleanups: reduce use of BOOST_FOREACH and leverage auto

This is like shaving after a week in the woods... all the cruft just falls away...!

I have a feeling that little/big-endian problems might happen if somebody does a conversion like
char my_array[2]{0,1};
short my_int = *((short_)my_array);
Is this *kind of problem_ likely to be an issue with these conversions?

Granted, it's an ugly hack, but the sort of thing you describe is unlikely to happen, as we are very careful about the use of fromVoid.

I know we are ;). But could an unwary end-user get unexpected results? I'm just mildly worried about casting to void, purely from a safety point of view.

Why did you remove the comment and the struct name, and replace it with just "helper?" This makes it harder to understand why it was done that way.

You're right - the intention is to actually completely remove the need for this helper structure. The comment was lost in the move, I'll reinstate it.

I am closing this pull request and will re-open a new one since I had to rebase against the latest develop and, as a result, I will have to force-push, and I'm not sure how well that will be handled.
