Installation Problem

When I was updating, the installer showed the following message:

After cancel, the previous version didn't work again. I had to uninstall and reinstall in a different folder to get it working again.

I have the same problem trying to update to 1.12. I also went through this the last time I updated. The solutions from the link didn't work. Very frustrating.
