Installing AA-Torque on Android 14

Using Google Pixel 6a on Android 14 stable release, non-rooted. Installing from KingInstaller doesn't work as it returns "App installed from KingInstaller". I managed to get AA-Torque installed as "App installed from Google Play Store" on Android 14 by downloading the APK on my PC, and installing it via Command Prompt with ADB using the following commands:

adb push aa-torque.apk /data/local/tmp/aa-torqie.apk

adb shell pm install -i "com.android.vending" -r /data/local/tmp/aa-torque.apk

adb shell rm /data/local/tmp/aa-torque.apk

Unfortunately, although AA Torque now shows as "App installed from Google Play Store", it still doesn't show up in Android Auto as an available app to Launch.

Any help on getting this to work on Android 14 without root would be much appreciated!

I tested the old version (performance Monitor) https://github.com/jilleb/mqb-pm with its installer https://github.com/shmykelsa/AAAD The application appears in Android Auto. Perhaps we need to check with the creator of AAAD, to put AATorque in place of Performance Monitor

How they are doing the install actually looks very simple. It looks like it wouldn't be too hard to add it to the update checker.

I tried with android 14 , without king installer if i understand it's not ok the app is not in the Android auto App. I try with android 10 , not working too. it work on android 10 only with kingistaller . Force update with android 14 and 10 wont work it send a crash report ( sorry i read the note after ) i will try many times

I am using this app on Samsung S22, since i had Android 13 I had no problems, but after installing Android 14 there are no-way to see it on Android Auto. I have followed strictly all the instructions, trying in every way, but without success. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Good afternoon. I downloaded the latest update and am having the same issue. Everything runs fine on my Pixel 6Pro on Android 14, however, it's not showing up in AA. AA is in developer mode with unknown sources checked, which I did before installing the APK. It installed using the FILES app and installed with no issue. The update was also installed without issue.

With Android 14 the app worked on my S22. It is after updating the app to version 10.0.98 that it stopped working on the car display.

Looking at this thread: AndreyPavlenko/Fermata#327 it seems some people get non-play store apps to work on Android 14 if they enable developer mode in AAWireless. You would need an AAWireless adapter.

I think that next months more phones will complete the upgrade from android 13 to 14 so if app will not upgrade for android 14, no one will use it because not compatible with major phone.

I can confirm that works with AAWireless but only with developer mode on both AAWireless and Android Auto apps.

Yes, I finally got mine to work. I have a Samsung Galaxy S24+ Android 14 with Android Auto 11.6, AA Torque 2.0.26, and AA Wireless dongle with latest update. I have Developer Mode turned on in Android Auto and AA Wireless. It works great now. I only need to tweak the gauges and PIDSs that I want displayed. No root of phone needed. I also did not need to use King Installer.

There's lots of complaints being reported about Android Auto not working after upgrading to Android 14. My S22 keeps prompting me to do the upgrade but I'm holding off until google comes out with a bug fix...

Google is the bug. They don't want you running unauthorized software on your head unit. It will take someone outside google to hack it. The easiest way around it currently is to buy an AAWireless dongle and put it in developer mode.

AA-Torque ran great on Android v13 and it continued to run after the Android v14 update. I've not tried any AA-Torque updates since moving to Android v14, and I don't think I will--I suspect AA-Torque will cease to work if I try.

Again, sorry, I know this doesn't help get AA-Torque running on Android 14, but maybe it'll be useful information to someone down the line.

I have AAWIreless adapter, but I can't enable developer mode, because then passthrough mode can't be enabled.

To work with Mazda interface, otherwise AA won't work. I will give it another try, but the last time i disable passthrough, there was no android auto at all :)

Did you install after you upgraded? From what I understand if you never upgrade you should be fine but that isn't much of a fix.

I dont know exatly how, but now I have AATorque woking on A14.
PixelOS 14 on rooted Xiaomi Mi9.
Magisk: unchecked Force DenyList. Android Auto unchecked in DenyList.
Install LSPosed and Shamiko.
Restart phone.
Install Android Auto - XLauncher Unlocked
Restart phone.
After restart tap LSPosed notification and enable module XLauncher unlocked. Check Android Auto in list bellow.
Restart phone.
Download https://github.com/dvaoru/ApkRenamer to your PC.
Download AA AIO Tweaker apk.
Rename package name with ApkRenamer to com.blabla.something...
Install KingInstaller to your phone.
Install renamed apk with KingInstaller, check Enable if you use rooted phone.
Download AATorque apk.
Rename package name to com.blabla.something...
Install renamed AATorque apk with KingInstaller, check Enable if you use rooted phone.
Enable developer mode in AA.
Enable your renamed app in AA AIO Tweaker.
Restart phone.
Then I install AA Store and CarTube as test.
And after a few restart voila! AATorque is in the AA launcher!!!!
And works in the car!!! Pioneer with WiFi. By USB and wireless too.
Excuse me, that this description is maybe inaccurate or not too much precise, I tried it a few hours and maybe I dont remeber exactly something.
But AATorque is working on A14.
And Screen2AA with the same procedure with LSPosed, Shamiko, AA XLauncher, ApkRenamer and AA AIO Tweaker.

After a bit of mucking around I just got AATorque working fine on my S24+ running Android 14 with OneUI 6.1 & Android Auto 11.1.640234. I couldn't get it to appear in the Launcher list on the phone no matter what I did, but following the hint from #Villacchione above (thank you!) - I just went for it on AA Wireless (Developer mode enabled) & as soon as AA started up through the wireless dongle AA Torque appeared in the list of available apps on the head unit. Happy Chappy!

Looking at the first post that started this, can someone try installing with pm install --user 0 -i "com.android.vending" --install-reason 1 -g /data/local/tmp/aa-torque.apk. The are a bunch of other flags in the pm install command. I'm not sure if anyone has tried them.

The process in Android 13 is just setting EXTRA_NOT_UNKNOWN_SOURCE to true and the source package as com.android.vending. I don't see a way to set EXTRA_NOT_UNKNOWN_SOURCE through the pm command but there might be something in there equivalent to it. You can try playing with the pm command because there are a ton of options in there and some combination of them might be enough to bypass whatever checks it is doing.

Does the torque app show up on the AA apps menu in the vehicle? If not, double check that you have developer mode on. If yes, then look at the launcher again while the vehicle menu is being displayed. You should now see it in the launcher and be able to position it in the list where you want it.

Is developer mode ENABLED in Android Auto or your AA Wireless adapter, or both? It should be Enabled in both. Note I am not referring to any wireless connecting interface, but rather the AA Wireless adapter specifically because it comes with an app that has a developer mode setting. I've not gotten a direct USB connection to work, nor any other wireless adapters - including Motorola. BTW, Torque does not show up in my launcher settings unless the vehicle's AA app interface is connected and running.

Any solution on installing Performance Monitor on Google Pixel with Android 14?
I know the wireless dongle but using it drains the battery so fast, and plugged in option is way more battery friendly

The only way I managed to get AA Torque to work on Pixel 8 Pro (Android 14) was by creating a developer account and uploading the app to an internal test track, it shows up in AA dashboard and works like a charm.

Oh, I messed that speedview wasn't actually in the FS!

Cloned that and tried to build an APK but got an error about invalid source version 19. So I went into the project structure and set the source version to 17 to see what happened. At that point I could build and run the package on the Pixel emulator, but it launched Speedview Test, not aa-torque itself.

Not sure what happened there or how to get the app itself to run. Any ideas?

I reckon when I get some time I'll get a release configured and push the app bundle I have to my test channel to see what happens in case no one else gets any further progress reported here. When/if I manage that I'll let folks know how it goes.

If you know why I'm not able to start the app itself in the emulator and if that means I'll have the same problem in release I'd love to hear it. 😆

So i have AAWireless and im still not seeing AATorque show up in AA...What am i doing wrong here? Both AA and AAWireless have developer mode enabled per the video. Verified my ODB2 is connected as well and my android auto launches and starts working

I have a little bit of software experience and I can't figure out how to build the app. I fix one problem and then get another error with the latest Android Studio and repos. There seems to be more steps than in your post or I have the wrong versions.
