Expected behaviour
I have two scenes, both of them are playing a video. I want to have a behaviour where when I transition from one scene to the next, the first video stops playing, and the second one starts. And when I go back to the first scene, the second scene stops playing and the first one starts.
That way, no two videos are playing at once.
Actual behaviour
When I am on the first scene, a video is playing. But when I transition to the second scene, the old video is still playing, but the second one starts playing now, leading to a buggy experience. When I go back to the first scene, the second scene is destroyed, and the first scene is still playing as it was before, which is ok, but the problem still remains.
Possible solutions
Now one could say an easy solution to this is stop the video right before you transition to the next scene.
however, this would work going to the next scene, but when moving back to the previous scene, the old scene that was paused has no way to know that we came back to it. So no video is played, which is also not the behaviour we want.
One solution for going back would be to keep a ref of the first component, and somehow force-render it with new props. However, how would this work if there are 10 scenes? Clearly it doesn't easily scale.
This is the kind of problem that would easily be solved with react (through
setState()) and flux (with a global state).Seeing that this package is called react-native-router-flux, I'm surprised there isn't a way to do this.
