Shell Elements are not readable #15
Comments
Could you please attach the result file and/or specify which shell element are being ignored? I've been able to read in SURF154 elements with no problems. |
Thanks for your response. I am trying to plot nodal stress results with a
model that contains shell181 elements. Rest of the element do get plotted
fine, while the shell elements are completely ignored. I am using Ansys
v.18.2
Do let me know if you are able to replicate the issue.
Regards,
Abhi

I've yet to program an interface for SHELL181, but as the element ordering is the same as SURF154, it shouldn't be too hard to add. I'll update the code so that those elements are accessible to pyansys as well. |
Thanks mate!
I suggest that you target the default element types used by Ansys WB (for
1D,2D,3D). This would increase the reach of pyansys.
If you could throw some light if in the future, with respect to nodal
results, you would be giving access to: the averaged, unaveraged on
material, unaveraged on real constant, top/bottom solution option for shell
elements. This would be very useful indeed.

Abhi

I'm about ready to go for SHELL181, but it would be great to have an APDL script to run and compare against. Do you have one? |
Could you let me know what the default elements are for workbench? I don't usually use workbench. |
Closing soon unless I hear back. |
Sorry for the delay. I will send the default elements for workbench today.

Thanks! Let me know if you can read in shell elements now. I tested it on: I'd like to know if it works for you as well. |
Hello Mate, Sorry for the late response. I tried out the spot weld example with Shell elements. The results from pyansys come close to the middle layer results (using SHELL command) for the shell from Ansys results. Regards, |
Hi Alex,
Pyansys currently ignores SHELL elements from the .RST file.
Regards,
Abhi
