could we not share the key generator objects between LogicalCollection instances ?

we should rather use LogicalCollection objects instead of just KeyGenerator objects.

    Add COMPILER_* variables to VERSIONS file.

    The variables will be used to select a fitting compiler in the CI.
    Developers need to ensure themselves that their development environment
    supports the c++ standard.
