WebKit inspector has an option to report on regions that are repainted (height and width); it'd be nice to have something like that in the phantomjs API to make it easier to detect when only a portion of the screen has changed. The repaint API may require a raster call, or it may simply work as a general callback; in either case, it seems that WebKit does support reporting on the geometry of repaints.
