piwik.awesomewm.org points at cname-piwik.thequod.de, which is my
personal Piwik instance. The redirection through the subdomain is used
to make this look like a non-third-party service.

This could also be added to the api docs.

If you want to track web site users, ok but I don't see why...
Having the API docs that are shipped with awesome "phone home" is a bad idea.

I don't want to have it in the generated/shipped docs, but only in the ones published on awesomewm.org.

It's just for informational purposes.
