Dear All

I'm looking for active contributors who could move babun forward.
I don't have much time to contribute myself and there's a couple of issues that blocks the next release.

If you're the right person just reply in this thread.

I can offer my help, but I'm not clued up enough to steer it. I can make minor pull requests and help review though.

What are the issues?

@jdriordan seems like outdated packages for example might be a problem! plus this when trying to update #692

Basically all issues that I ran into were immediately fixed by just running the up-to-date cygwin installer once against the cygwin directory in .babun. Now everything works, pact uses the latest source and so far not a single error (even though I've been up to some fringe things).

zsh performance could be better (the prompt takes ages to render once a git repo is entered), but apart from that - all is good.

Also noticed the zsh performance, but I assumed that it's just an issue with cygwin and the zsh package and not babun related. Am I wrong?

For that we would need to benchmark zsh. Maybe also try to build zsh from upstream sources in cygwin and compare the performance.

Just because it's slow by default in cyg, doesn't mean it has to be in babun 👍

@tombujok Could effort perhaps be directed at factoring out bits of useful standalone functionality into packages for cygwin? E.g. pact doesn't seem like it is inherently tied to babun, and I'm sure one of the many maintainers of apt-cyg forks would be happy to take over development. There's an issue that's been open regarding this for a while: #507
