Copy, Auto Tag, Convert, Delete Copied Data, Add Converted Data to Library

I’m trying to convert my FLAC music files to OPUS. I want to auto-tag the OPUS files and add those OPUS files to my beets library. However, I’m not able to configure beets to do this.

Here’s the config.yaml file that I’m using:

My FLAC music collection is in the /data/music/flac directory. I want to

1. copy the FLAC albums inside /data/music/flac to /data/music/opus
2. convert the those copied files to OPUS
3. auto-tag those OPUS files
4. add those OPUS files to my library directory
5. remove the copied FLAC files in /data/music/opus

Alternatively,

1. copy the FLAC albums inside /data/music/flac to /data/music/opus
2. auto-tag those FLAC files
3. convert those FLAC files to OPUS files
4. add those OPUS files to my library directory
5. remove the copied FLAC files in /data/music/opus

Is it possible to configure beets to do this in a single beets command?

beet import should tag and convert. Please use beet -v import and post the logs if it is not doing that. You can also add delete_originals: true under conver to delete the FLAC after conversion.

I've uploaded the output generated when I used beet -v import. The OPUS files in my library generated after using beet -v import have no tags.

Here's the tags that are present in the original FLAC file. If I don't use auto: true in convert, additional tags are added to the imported FLAC file.

In addition to the issue I've described in my parent post, the tags in the original FLAC files are not preserved in the converted OPUS file. I haven't enabled the scrub plugin in my config.yaml file. The details are mentioned in an answer I wrote earlier, along with the output of beet -v import.

I would say that that isn't a beets issue, but an opusenc issue.

Not sure why using opusenc doesn't work as expected with beets because when using it in isolation, tags in FLACs are preserved when a FLAC file is converted to OPUS. I switched to ffmpeg and tags are preserved as expected and auto-tagging is also done.

Maybe the convert plugin documentation should mention that opusenc won't work as expected for transcoding FLAC files to OPUS with beets.
