Plugged and battery saving settings all disabled, but still will not sync automatically

The app often stops syncing calendars, resuming only if I trigger a manual sync, despite being set to sync every 15 minutes. For example, today, I enabled the log and see there that the “PeriodicSyncWorker” triggered at 14:12 and then nothing more until I triggered it again manually at 17:49.

This is so even though the phone is plugged in to its (fast) charger, has 100% battery, and after having followed thoroughly the recommendations about disabling any battery saving setting, here and here (except for “turn doze mode completely off”, but at this stage I really suspect it’s not the OS’ fault).

I have logs ready to be sent if developers want to have a look at it. I don’t see anything that looks like an error in the log; everything seems to happen normally, it’s just not running the sync when it should…

Does it help to reduce the sync interval? Maybe the system throttles the app when there are too many jobs.

It does not: I used to have it configured on larger interval (I reduced it to be able to debug more easily and exhibit the problem more clearly). Also, the system is far from being overloaded: I have installed very few apps, and it’s a decent phone that could certainly handle many more.

Reading again, I see the point of suspecting that the system might, even without being generally overloaded, be throttling specifically an app that tries to run too often. I would be very surprised that this would be the cause of the problem but, just to be absolutely sure, I have just set the sync interval to 4h and will report back.

Yes, that's the number one problem DAVx5 has since its beginning – systems that don't run it regardless of what it schedules or requests.

I have largely increased the sync interval, and it started working all right. I then decreased it again progressively. I am now at two hours sync interval, for both contacts and calendar, and it has been syncing all right for multiple days. I’ll leave it as is. Thank you for your help.

I suggest to change the documentation on the web site: there are numerous pages about sync problems but they all point to battery saving issues. Mine was not a battery saving issue, in so far as the problem was happening even with the phone plugged it and at 100% battery. It was an issue of trying to sync too often. I believe that this should be documented.

Behavior has changed since DAVx5 4.3.15. Does the problem with "sync too often" still occur with DAVx5 4.3.15?
