This PR references issue #916 and new issue #1152.
I gave this a starting approach, but I'm not sure if this is what is intended with a generic
BLOCKinside theEnv. As I was going through this, I found it infects a large portion of the codebase and wanted to pause and ask before continuing.What are the thoughts?
