No Audio for Specific Video Files and Formats in Brave Browser's Torrent Player #37842

Description

No audio playback occurs when playing MKV video files using the torrent player in Brave Browser.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Brave Browser and navigate to an MKV file torrent.
  2. Use the built-in torrent player to start playing the MKV file.
  3. Observe the absence of audio during playback.

Actual result:

MKV video files consistently fail to play audio when using the torrent player.

Expected result:

All MKV video files should have consistent audio playback in the torrent player.

Reproduces how often:

Consistently reproducible with MKV video files.

Brave version (brave://version info)

  • Brave Version: 1.64.122
  • Chromium Version: Chromium: 123.0.6312.122
  • OS: macOS Sonoma Version 14.4 (Build 23E214)

Version/Channel Information:

  • Can you reproduce this issue with the current release? Yes
  • Can you reproduce this issue with the beta channel? [Yes/No]
  • Can you reproduce this issue with the nightly channel? [Yes/No]

Other Additional Information:

  • Does the issue resolve itself when disabling Brave Shields? No
  • Does the issue resolve itself when disabling Brave Rewards? No
  • Is the issue reproducible on the latest version of Chrome? Yes

Miscellaneous Information:

It would be beneficial to check the compatibility of audio codecs within MKV files in the Brave torrent player. Possible codec issues could include but are not limited to AAC, DTS, or AC3, which might not be properly supported or decoded.

Tested and I can reproduce this on my end. Also have another user here reporting this behavior:

Worth noting that this issue occurs on Windows OS as well.
