Home Assistant Config

These are the config files for my personal Home Assistant, home automation setup.

My goals:

1. Ditch SmartThings due to instability, confusing UIs/setup procedures, not a lot of local network processing, and their lack of official support for all of my devices.
2. Make all of my various hardware and services able to interact with each other.
3. Require no (or extremely minimal) use of a software based user interface.

• Samsung KS8000 TV
• Sonos speakers

Supplemental software I'm using

• Docker to run Home Assistant in a container
• Life360 for mobile device tracking
• Plex media server

Docker

I use Docker to keep my home assistant installation contained and easily deployable wherever I want.

Installation

1. Install Docker (and docker-compose)
2. Clone this repository
3. Run: docker-compose up -d in a shell

Logs

Logs can be tailed by running the following in a shell: docker-compose logs -f --tail=50

Updating

To update to the latest version of home assistant in the docker container, run the following in a shell.

docker pull homeassistant/home-assistant:latest
docker-compose down
docker-compose up -d
