Includes changes made in the original 1.0 version and adaptation to
new messages and services that were added since then.

Works with a local build:

colcon build --packages-select cartographer_ros_msgs

source install/setup.bash 
ros2 interface list | grep cartographer

TODO: adapt CI once #1543 is merged.
