With a long enough wait between batches the lease will expire too early.

I thought the lease task runs even if it's backing off? Will take a look later

Yeah I'm unsure what exactly is happening yet.
We are seeing a lot of Lost lease on instance ..., can't release it when this happens it is possible it is something else.
