this makes parallel tests harder to debug, we need to figure out why this is happening and fix the test framework.

actually it appears that new parallel tests aren't functioning correctly right now...

A relevant test case is test_2D_shockbubble_classic_parallel in test/test_examples.py. For now it is skipped, because otherwise it mysteriously fails.
