[Feature Request] Force automatic reloading of folder`s content #22
Comments
Hi, I was going to write nearly similar request for LocalFolders. Installed a brand new PC (Linux Mint) from scratch and use Thunderbird on it with LocalFolders. It would be nice that when a local folder is set in LocalFolders, it reads possibly already available local folders under it. Thanks, |
IGNORE MY EARLIER COMMENT! I just need to be more patient. The only thing: Thanks, |
@squromiv These are slightly separate issues , but I will comment on both here:

Hallo,
My question is solved after the installation of Thunderbird 68.2.2
Running local folders and pointing it to a network drive directory will
show (after a while) all sub-directories in that folder.
I think that this is the automatic indexing/scanning thing you mention.
Regards,
Marc
PS:
TB68.2.2 is not yet officially supported by Ubuntu or Mint.
They just updated to TB68.2.1 I've seen.
To run TB68.2.2 with an existing Ubuntu/Mint running a lower
version is possible.
Close TB if its running.
Download the latest version (a tar.bz2 file). For Mint_19.2,
extract the zip files content to /usr/lib.
/ust/lib already has a Thunderbird sub-directory.
the tar.bz2 contains a Thunderbird directory.
Extracting the tar.bz2 into /usr/lib overwrites the existing
Thunderbird.
Launch TB again.
It's now the newest version running with all existing settings and
add-on.
I had to uninstall and reinstall one add-on.
For exiting mail and calendar there is nothing to do, it will work
without issues.
Only thing: Watch out for automatic updates pushed by Ubuntu/Mint.
When that process installs suddenly and older version, issues raise.

Thanks for the issue posts! I am slow responding because for some
reason I'm not getting notifications, sorry about that.
These are slightly separate issues , but I will comment on both here:
* Recognizing existing subfolders:
This could be an addition that makes sense, there are some
complicating issues such as our mail file supposed to be
automatically imported, in other words it's more complicated than
just the folders. I would have to think how to make it practical
and not too complicated.
Thunderbird periodically (I don't know exactly when) does do some
automatic scanning/indexing.

What specific error to you get, can you copy the console debug log?
I have things set up for my wife's office with multiple clients
pointing to a NAS under Windows I could imagine possible slightly
different permission issues on *nix

I use the same local folders for different instances of ThunderBird. Often they work simultaneously. Every time, I delete messages in TB1, they are still shown in TB2. But when I click on the message in TB2, the error of inaccessibility occurs. This situation lasts until I close TB2 and rerun it.
