Windows vsn 3.3.1 needs a workaround to open my account #79
Comments
Have you tried both methods to sign in on Windows? (the second merhod is by using “Sign In button with pressed Shift) |
Pressing Shift key while tapping "Sign In" button in browser: no change.
The only workaround that works is to skip the Windows app, use browser and
choose "open ClipTo in your browser". Then sign-in works, and I can use
ClipTo in browser, but the Windows app remains pretty much useless because
I can't sign in.

This is strange. The app uses the same site to sign in. Have you used the app before and which version? Probably you should try to clear application data (the location of the folder can be found in the same instruction that is available on sign in). If it also does not help, please try to pass the Sign In flow via another browser (which browser do you use now?) |
Also pressing shift key when tapping Sign In inside Windows app produces no
result

Could you check and one of the following:
|
@kirk-rs could you also try to use the official app from Windows Store?https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9PPGHCK93ZM9 |
Uninstall ClipTo app, deletion of the AppData folder, and reinstallation of
Windows app worked!
You must still press Shift key when signing in from inside the reinstalled
ClipTo app to get your notes.
Also, the sign-in now seems to be persistent at least until computer
reboot, which is nice. Manual sign-out still possible.
There was a fleeting notice in green above the app search bar about
updating to a new version (maybe 3.4.0?) but it has disappeared. The
download from ClipTo.pro website remains v3.3.1
Thanks for your help. I'm keeping the instructions handy in case the
problem crops up again with a new upgrade.

The latest version is 3.4.0 on both Github and Wondows Store. On site the version will be updated soon. |
Got 3.4.0 from Github. Installed without a hitch. Account sign-in
persisted even after update.
However, once I signed out and tried to sign back in, the problem happens
again.
But now, there is an "Authorization" button that appears in the app, which
opens a browser tab with your workaround instructions. Nice touch!
I deleted the ClipTo appdata folder but without uninstalling ClipTo.
When I reopened ClipTo, pressed Shift key + Sign-in button, I was able to
sign in successfully. All seems well. No need to uninstall/reinstall as
far as I can tell.
The sign-in once again persists until at least computer reboot
(sleep/hibernate permit persistence).
Maybe you can automate the deletion of ClipTo appdata folder within the
setup process to avoid all this complication?

Have added to the backlog your suggestions about deletion of appdata folder. Thanks! |
I finally figured out a workaround to open my account in Windows using a browser:
In browser, go to https://clipto.pro
Tap on "Open ClipTo in your browser"
Tap "Sign In" at the top left of the browser window
Choose the sign-in method (I always use the "E-mail" option)
Enter your account details, and you should be in!
NOTE: the Windows App v3.3.1 NEVER permits login. It just hangs.
