Monitoring Support for CSDs

All CSD services automatically get what Cloudera Manager refers to as Baseline Monitoring. Additional monitoring capabilities are available through the Service Monitoring Descriptor.

Baseline Monitoring

Every service in Cloudera Manager, including ones created with CSDs, get baseline monitoring for "free". Baseline monitoring is the standard generic monitoring we perform on processes. This does not require any additional configuration in the service.sdl file. It includes:

  • Process metrics
  • For example, number of open file handles, CPU and memory usage
  • Process health tests
  • Alerts if processes are not running but should be

Charts

The charting framework in Cloudera Manager works with CSDs just like it does for every other service. A user can:

  • Plot metrics for roles and hosts
  • Create a dashboard and save it as the default for role pages
