Thoughts on musical examples in the manual versus existing compositions

  • new musical examples folder in examples:
  1. ideally these should be short and concise examples, possibly around 30-60 seconds long or so and not excessive on score line entries.
  2. They can be composed in any musical style, but should still be able to showcase a specific opcode. This is the task of the Csound manual team.
  3. Text for musical example: "A musical example featuring the fof opcode: TheElectricPriest_Enhus.csd. It is an excerpt from 'The Electric Priest' by Tobias Enhus.". So format is: TITLE then _NAME CREATOR then .csd
  4. thinking about new repo DONE --> /examples/musical
  5. if soundfiles are needed in the musical example, they should be turned into FLAC files to minimize file size.
  • We can extract a portion as close to unaltered as possible of The Electric Priest (permission?) that shows a few different neat opcodes, and add some comments pointing to where the opcode is used then we can use that excerpt a few times DONE

  • these are a few musical examples that can be part of /examples/musical:

  1. extract from Electric Priest by Tobias Enhus (example for fof) -DONE
  2. barmodel etude #2 from Richard Boulanger (example for barmodel, turnon)
  3. Eugenio Giordani GRANULAR SYNTHESIS (reinit example)
  4. Simple 2-sine tone with modulations and random-walk melody generation form Steven Yi (tival example)
  • a better presentation on the website for compositions in or/sco or csd.

  • There are a few websites already, containing these older compositions. Copyright?? What about recent compositions?? How to expose these compositions better on the Csound opening page??
