This is the first version that falls under the new direction from #214.

The goal is to make the major changes required, such as stripping old names and returning to using idiomatic types, and release that. Non-goals include splitting the repo, major testing or spec improvements, or expanding the functionality beyond the existing functions from 0.0.8 and adding F#.
