This potentially could be a user setting.
Currently if a user follows another user they immediately see their updates on the friend statuses page. They're not technically a friend, because the following doesn't have to be mutual.
Consider whether the following should have to be mutual to see updates, and who determines that in the relationship, and whether or not that should be adjustable on an account level. Lots to think about on this one.

Initial leaning is that current functionality is fine and if a change is introduced then that should be defaulted to the current functionality but users should be able to decide for themselves how they want their profile and content to be observed. Brands may have a different desire than a privacy-focused individual. If we keep the default behavior as default and layer this functionality on top of it then it can come at a much later date if needed.
