This is useful for having multiple configs to start your client with but keeping the original settings if you want to start your client without a config. For example my maprelease config looks like this:

gfx_screen_width 1440
gfx_screen_height 900
gfx_high_detail 1
gfx_texture_quality 1

cl_showchat 0
cl_showkillmessages 0
ui_page 9
