No one wants to sit in a chair in VR. what the hell. Classrooms are so 2017. |

@imdying Thanks for your comment. Think of the classroom image as the fragmentation of the classroom! We plan on publishing some more imagery in due course. I agree with you that for many streams of learning, the classroom is yesterdays learning model and VR is the future. However, there will be people who want to deliver learning material in the context of a traditional lecture to a distributed audience and we believe being able to do that in a virtual auditorium or classroom is a great tool for learning. But there are a plethora of other ways people can learn at DCL University. The name virtual classroom might be a metaphor for the classroom, but nothing could be further from the truth. Virtual classrooms can be an amazing thing and bring channels of learning to places it couldn't otherwise reach. best regards, |

@katalin1974 @imdying I guess a good idea would be that there is a standard virtual classroom, then the teacher opens up interactive VR Experiences in Decentraland so yes they do sit down in a classroom, but that classroom also turns into the trenches in WW2/1 |

It looks like a really interesting project and especially in the research side of things it could be really great. One aspect of the university is out and out learning, teaching methods, examination and underpinning it with a learning management system to make it easy for educators to structure work into a curriculum and grade learners. |

I have made my largest district pledge to the DCL Conference Center, but I would also like to pledge some lands to your University district as my second district pledge. Goal: Create the definitive centre of education in Decentraland.
Category: Public
LAND Needed: 10 to start. But we would like to build a whole campus, and contributors can help achieve that quickly. Or revenue will allow us to build that campus over time.
Startup Costs: Very Low as we have development experience, and experiencing in creating learning content and creating virtual classrooms.
How will funds be raised: Both free and paid for courses will be available
How will contributors see a return value: Contributors can create buildings on campus, and deliver education content and services and charge Tuition fees.
We hope that contributors will be generous enough to deliver something for free - although it is not essential.
Decentraland University is going to be a centre of learning in VR.
The proposers have not far shy off a decade of experience in eLearning and virtual classroom training. One of the founders developed a Virtual Classroom Training platform that was used commercially to roll out training. We would like to channel this experience into creating a centre of learning in VR. And Decentraland seems like the perfect platform to make this happen.
Can start small and plan for growth.
We envisage starting small, and then expanding as we get a take up on our first batch of courses.
Of course we would be delighted if huge numbers of people want to join us. But we think it is more likely that a few individuals will join us and then we will work together to deliver education content to a much larger number of people in Decentraland.
A mix of free and paid for education.
We plan to do a mix of free courses and paid for courses. There will also be one off classes on a variety of subjects. We will invite subject matter experts to deliver live education, and we will also compile their expertise to product pre-canned training and interactive content.
Development of a Virtual Classroom which will incorporate a variety of e-Learning functionality.
The proposers will develop a virtual classroom which could be integrated for free in other contributors LAND parcels that form the university campus. Later on, they may rent virtual classrooms to groups and individuals who do not hold LAND but wish to deliver training.
Collaboration
One of the unique opportunities with this project is to explore and engage with new types of collaboration and teamwork. Research into this area is one of the things that we think will be facilitated by the presence of DCL University.
Campus
We are not going to focus on any one particular kind of layout or style for the campus. We will wait and see how big it is, and discuss as a community the ideas we will have.
The proposers are definitely thinking more Starfleet Academy than Cambridge University in our aspirations for campus design. We had this concept drawing created to illustrate the sorts of imaginitive structures we could be dreaming up for Decentraland University:
The plan going fowards
Once we see what the take up is on this project we will start fleshing out how the community will work. But we believe even just as the core team, we can deliver a compelling array of educational content and services In VR and look forward to get cracking on creating an exciting platform of education in VR.
We've created this timeline to give you an idea of our plan for development. This is split into 2 streams as we will be creating the Virtual Classroom functionality in parallel to building out our Land Parcels and working with the community members who need our help to build theirs:
We are open to every aspect of this development, so if you think there should be extra steps in our development plan then please don't hesitate to get in touch. This is heavily evolving at this time and this timeline is likely to change as we identify additional opportunities and want to slot them into the running order.
Please join us. We are ambitious. You don't have to be a teacher/educator yourself to get involved in this.
We think this might be a killer application for Decentraland and get people using VR for something really meaningful in their lives.
