Contributes to #64072
This code is originally from #65946 but it wasn't merged into main because CI was failing. It worked just fine when I tested it locally so the problem with failing tests in CI was probably due to the bug fixed in #65486.
I'm opening this PR as a draft for now to see if the CI build passes.
