Last year when we were preparing the plans, before we started building work,
we made a 2D layout of the kitchen (in Sketchup):

image
Our sketch was converted into AutoCad by our Architect:

image

PDF: 20180406-Plano-electrico-com-cozinha-final.pdf

Now the time has come to do a high(er) fidelity layout to help the workmen visualise exactly where everything needs to go with regards to plumbing, electrical socket placement and tiling/flooring #41.

Todo

  • Re-measure the kitchen using Laser Measure for higher accuracy.
  • Re-draw the layout in much more detail and in 3D.
    • Move the Fridges from the West wall to the North wall to "open" the kitchen
and create more space in the two "main" (West) zone.
  • Use as much off-the-shelf IKEA hardware (sinks, hobs, ovens, extractors etc.) as possible
(because IKEA hardware is decent, durable, unbranded and readily available)

If you're new to kitchen layout/design, I'd recommend reading the following post:

As in previous flats/houses we have lived in, we will protect the counter using these chopping boards:

These 2D snapshots of the 3D render don't do it justice:

I will attempt to export the 3D render in some format that is shareable.

@iteles these are the Kitchen Fridges I had in mind:
https://mediamarkt.pt/collections/refrigeracao/products/frigorifico-combinado-kgv36vi32s#tab-description

Yes, they are more expensive to buy up-front than a cheaper brand, but they use considerably less energy so we will save money over the life of the product.

The other one we looked at was Samsung RB37J5249SS A+++ 365L No Frost - Combinado Inox
https://mediamarkt.pt/products/frigorifico-combinado-rb37j5249ss

image

The Samsung one is even more expensive but it only uses 173kWh per year which is a chunk less than the Bosch and it has a higher capacity. 🤔

In case anyone is wondering what the minimum width for an emergency exit is ...
https://www-group.slac.stanford.edu/esh/eshmanual/references/fireReqExit.pdf
image

it's 32 inches or 82 cm (rounded up).
We have exceeded this minimum requirement in all exit paths.
(in two places we had to break down walls to widen the path which was 70cm... 🙄)

@iteles overhead LED Panel Lighting positioning proposal for kitchen:
image
My logic is that the lights are directly above the "work" areas.
They are not symmetrical or "balanced" they are just where the light needs to be.
Happy to discuss and re-position if you feel strongly about symmetry.

Please let me know when you have time to review/revise on my screen.
Thanks. 🌻

@iteles let me know if you need any other views/projections for sending to the plumbers.

Plans sent to plumbers by the way. I've asked when they can finalise the kitchen plumbing so that the walls and floor can go in.

@nelsonic This turned out fantastic! As you finished the plans, can we go ahead and close this issue for now or is there anything else to be done here?

@nelsonic Could you please add the latest version of the 3D kitchen to this repo? The plumbers have asked for the sketchup file (well, the AutoCAD, but same same).

@iteles the SketchUp file is: https://github.com/dwyl/home/blob/master/kitchen/kitchen-2019.skp
It's been updated each time I've made (meaningful) changes.
The plumbers can install SketchUp Make for free: https://www.sketchup.com/download/all
Or if they prefer a "lightweight" (read-only) viewer: https://www.sketchup.com/products/sketchup-viewer

@nelsonic I think you wanted to open a separate issue for the build phase so there would be less intense scrolling: #52 (comment)

Can we close this one?

@iteles I've opened separate issues for each one of the individual/independent kitchen areas: #54 #55 & #56. The first one to be built is the "accessible" kitchen #54 (the simplest/smallest one).

I don't see the need to close this issue, it's still relevant to have a wholistic view of the entire kitchen.
