We have been asked by quite a few services clients to send them case studies of the work we have carried out to date.

We will need to create this content so that we can add them to our website as well. dwyl/dwyl-site#89

Structure

  • Name of the client + logo
  • What industry/sector they are in
  • What problem/opportunity did they have?
  • Our Approach
    • Did we have a workshop with them?
    • What kind of training did we do with them?
    • Development process particularities
  • Solution
    • Description of the solution
    • Features of the solution
    • Choice of technologies used
    • How the solution solved the problem
  • Screenshots of product created on different devices - responsive (https://placehold.it/)
  • Project length
  • Projected length vs actual length
  • Feedback
  • Qualitative - quote from the client

Assigning to myself as I'll need to put together the bullet points of info for these.
High priority as we need to send to a client on Friday.

Thanks @iteles . Initial questions:

  • Does dwyl have a description of its ideal customer anywhere? I know you work on tech for good projects but I don't know much about your client history otherwise. Just in case it's possible to tailor this to your target audience in any way.
  • Could I have a link to the app or website you built for the case studies I'm working on if it's public? (Science Museum Group, I believe.)
  • How long would you like the case study to be? Do we have a target word limit to aim for?

Will raise more questions if necessary when I have access to the notes for this. 👍

@bradreeder So many good questions!

  • Yes! Great question! Our main focus is non-technical, social impact businesses, some of which will have a 'digital trustees' who know a little more about technology. This doesn't just mean charities, there are lots of social impact businesses run like multi-national corporations but usually the people getting in touch with us are non-technical. The impression we're after is friendly, but absolutely know our values and are excellent in our craft in the most accessible language possible. The technology portion should satisfy any technical people who are asked to look at it on behalf of the non-technical people.
  • All links are in the bullets I sent through, will make sure it's there for all of them
  • Erm, concise! Whatever you feel makes sense based on your research is a good starting point but it should probably fit on a half side of A4 or so - please add comments where you feel another paragraph could be added and it's contents and we can make the call.

@iteles Current thoughts:

I like the minimalistic aesthetic of your website, in particular the landing page that reduces your core service down to a simple process. From a design perspective, I see the case studies as example narratives of that process: to help customers understand more what you do & have done, and hopefully to identify their needs within that narrative.

My favourite case studies I've looked at so far are:

Both reduce their case studies down to a simple narrative and into as few steps as possible (goal - process - result or problem - solution - impact). I think this would fit your website design and help this be concise. Most of what's in your overview could be condensed down to three steps ("problem", "approach", "solution"), and extraneous information displayed around it.

@markwilliamfirth Is that reviewed copy? I don't know if you've settled on a format yet?

@freelancedad in terms of google docs for editing:

The case study website copy in its current form can be found here

The version that was iterated upon by @bradreeder that is mentioned by @iteles here can be found here

In terms of what needs to be actioned, we need some nicely written out case studies for biz dev and sales purposes - the details and format of which is outlined in the top comment here. If you have some cool ideas in terms of formatting it would be great to hear them.

If you have any questions about the projects and case studies, it is best to ask @iteles as she managed the projects and knows all the details

I will be in tomorrow if you have any questions, but please feel free to post questions in here as we like to keep things "open-source" 👍

Hm, this shouldn't still be assigned to me.

@markwilliamfirth As per #274 (comment) and the sharing of the case study over email chat, could you please let me know where this is at?

@markwilliamfirth In April, you were emailed the first draft of a case study to review (of format, language, technique, etc) to see if it could form a good template, as per the emails exchanged and #274 (comment)

That's the thing I am asking for an update on please. #274 (comment)
