Thanks Steve for your feedback and pull requests. I typically don't see
those issues because I do not use unix at home or at work. The good news
is that Travis-CI appears to use a unix variant to run the tests so at
least I should not introduce any regressions. Also, I've setup a virtual
Debian host on my computer so I can test and debug platform specific issues.
